JAKARTA. Even though President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has yet to receive official notice of the arrest of SKK Migas chief Rudi Rubiandini, he has said the arrest will not affect the oil and gas sector.

“The President learned about the arrest from the media. He has not received a formal report from the energy and mineral resources minister,” presidential spokesman Julian Aldrin Pasha said.

“But the President wants to ensure the public that the management of the oil and gas upstream will remain operational,” he added.

Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigators arrested Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force (SKK Migas) head Rudi Rubiandini at his house on Jl. Brawijaya, South Jakarta, on Tuesday night for allegedly accepting bribes totaling U$700,000 on two separate occasions from a foreign company.

Two people allegedly working as middlemen for the company, as well as two security officers and a driver, were also taken in for questioning.

KPK investigators also confiscated a BMW motorbike, a black bag and a stack of documents.

Rudi was installed as SKK Migas chief in January this year. He was previously deputy energy and mineral resources minister. He was considered to have gained the President’s trust due to being a capable man with in-depth knowledge of the oil and mineral industry. (Bagus BT Saragih/dic)
