JAKARTA. The self-styled king of dangdut Rhoma Irama claims he would be the perfect running mate for Jakarta Governor Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in the 2014 presidential election.
Rhoma said he had a similar character to that of Jokowi in that he was able to mingle with people.
“In politics, nothing’s impossible. It is very likely we’ll have a pairing between Rhoma Irama and Jokowi. It’s going to be an ideal pairing,” Rhoma said at a discussion on Tuesday.
Rhoma said he could easily get very close to the people because of his music.
“Dangdut is a music genre from the people and by the people,” Rhoma maintained.
In recent months, Rhoma has made overtures to the National Awakening Party (PKB) in the hope that the party would name him its presidential candidate.
PKB chairman Muhaimin Iskandar earlier said that he would prefer to have Rhoma as a presidential candidate than former Constitutional Court chief justice Mahfud MD.
