NUSADUA. Russian President Vladimir Putin thanked his Indonesian counterpart, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, for the birthday surprise welcome he received on the sidelines of Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Monday.
“I thank you for the birthday greetings. It was a surprise,” said Putin as quoted by Antara news agency.
When the Russian President, who celebrated his 61st birthday on Monday, arrived at the APEC Summit venue APEC leaders, with guitar accompaniment by President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, sang birthday songs for him.
A small birthday cake with candles was also presented to the Russian leader.
The surprise was followed by the scheduled first session of the APEC Summit, which was opened by President Yudhoyono.
Yudhoyono and Putin held a bilateral meeting that lasted for around 15 minutes on Monday afternoon. (The Jakarta Post)
