JAKARTA. Education and Culture Minister Mohammad Nuh has urged people to report any type of fraud during the national exams (UN) to the authorities.

“File a report if there is a leak of examination papers or any other type of cheating during the UN,” he said during a surprise inspection at state senior high school SMA 112 in Jakarta on Monday, as quoted by Antara news agency.

The minister said it was nearly impossible for an examination paper leakage to occur during this year’s national exams due to tight security precautions taken by police officers.

Moreover, he added, there were 20 different types of question materials for every classroom so that it was nearly impossible for a UN participant to cheat during exams.

“That suspicion should be abandoned. If there is a leak of examination papers or other fraud, just report it,” said Nuh.

On Monday morning, the minister carried out a surprise inspection of several senior high schools in Jakarta, comprising SMA 78, SMA 112 and SMA LB Pangudi Luhur.

Nuh said that so far no problems had hindered the staging of the national exams.

On Monday, all senior high school, Islamic high school and vocational school students in regions across Indonesia took the UN, which is scheduled to last until Wednesday.

The number of senior high school and Islamic high school students as well as Kejar Paket C participants taking this year’s UN amounts to 1,644,713. Meanwhile, the number of vocational school students taking part in the 2014 UN is 1,184,987.

In Monday’s exams, the students worked on three subjects comprising Indonesian language and biology for students in the natural-sciences class and geography for social-science class students. (ebf)
