Bali's imports plunge 61 percent


DENPASAR. Bali's imports, in the first quarter of 2017, plunged 61.66 percent to US$18.84 million from $49.15 million in the same period last year.

The imports mostly comprised machines and goods to produce a variety of commodities and souvenirs for export, Chief of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Office in Bali Province Adi Nugroho said here on Saturday.

Just in March 2017, the imports nosedived 84.47 percent to $4.42 million from $28.49 million in the same month last year, he stated.

The March 2017 imports represented a 18.80 percent decline compared to $5.45 million a month earlier, he noted.

He remarked that 28.28 percent of the imports came from China, 23.26 percent from the United States, 14.97 percent from Australia, 6.62 percent from Singapore, and 4.33 percent from the Netherlands.
